“Previously known as the Kelvin Grove Residents’ Association (1987–2006), and before that, the Kelvin Grove Progressive Association (1975–1987) — originally formed in 1967. The group also traces its roots back to the historic Kelvin Grove Social Hall Society, which served the community from 1901 to 1984.”
The Kelvin Grove Community Association (KGCA) is a not-for-profit Incorporated Society dedicated to enhancing the well-being of Kelvin Grove suburb and its residents. Run by a team of local volunteers, the association generates funds primarily through the hire of Kelvin Grove Community Centre, using these resources to support community initiatives.
Affectionately known as Kelvin Grove Hall, the building itself was originally the “pavilion” for the 1971 centennial celebrations of the city of Palmerston North.
The current facility is owned by the Palmerston North City Council and leased to KGCA, who manages and maintains the hall, ensuring all profits from its operation are reinvested into its upkeep and distributed through community grants to benefit local residents.
